The Weakness In President Mahama: He Is A Politician Not A Leader

As a politician, President Mahama deserves commendation for rising through the ranks and fighting his way to the top. However his leadership skill has been called into question by Andy Owusu, the national coordinator for the Free Educational Movement and a personal assistant to the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako.

By virtue of the thumb, anybody could occupy a political position but according to Mr. Owusu, not every politician is a born leader.

In an interview with Mr. Owusu, he laid down points which in his view expose the weakness in President Mahama.

He claims the inability of the Mahama led government to curtail the rampant strike actions of workers in the country, clearly depicts the deficit he is pointing out to.

He cited the recent strike action by medical doctors as a clear case of how President Mahama and his ministers managed the issue politically without demonstrating any leadership skill.

Mr. Owusu stated that things wouldn’t have fallen apart if the president had intervened with "sweet talks" and barred his subordinates from making it a political matter.

The Communications Officer of the governing National Democratic Congress, Solomon Nkansah recently described the intended strike action by doctors as one that can only originate from minds that are not serious.

Speaking on Peace FM’s evening political talk programme dubbed 'The Platform', Solomon Nkansah minced no words accusing members of the Ghana Medical Association as professionals in bed with the New Patriotic Party.

“It is about time we speak hard to people to reason. I wonder what has changed that they (GMA) don’t have good leaders who love this country. They (GMA) love their political party more than this country,” he said.

Mr. Owusu claims the flood gates for agitated workers to get cheeky responses from government officials whenever they complain, were first started by the president.

He recounted that Presdient Mahama passed his infamous ‘dead goat’ comment in Botswana to make Ghanaians aware that he is unperturbed by the series of demonstrations and agitations against his administration; and like the proverbial dead goat, he was not afraid of death.

Such utterances in Mr. Owusu’s view have gotten the nation into the unfortunate state we find ourselves.
