The national council of the Government and Hospital Pharmacists Association (GHOSPA) is currently meeting to take a decision on their intended strike following an intervention by Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah. The Chief of Staff met the pharmacists on Friday in a last-minute effort to persuade them against the strike that was scheduled to commence today. Following the meeting, leadership of GHOSPA is briefing the national council to decide whether to proceed with the planned strike. Chairperson of the group, Stephen Corquaye told Citi News the way forward will be determined and announced to members after today�s meeting. A strike by the pharmacists will compound the problems of the health sector which is already reeling from the effects of a strike by medical doctors. The Pharmacists have served notice of a nationwide strike over what they say are discrepancies on their placement on the Single Spine Salary Structure. �It is regrettable that since 8th August 2014 when the Chief of Staff directed the Ministry of Finance to implement the road map for resolving the salary grievances of pharmacists in the public sector, following a Sub-Cabinet Committee report. However the Finance Ministry has demonstrated a clear unwillingness to carry out the directive,� a statement from GHOSPA added.
