South Dayi Politics Civil Servant Caught Pants Down

Information available to The Accra Times indicate that a director at the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Mr. Frank Dei has allegedly deserted his job at the Ministry and is doing active politics in the South Dayi constituency, feverishly campaigning to become the Member of Parliament of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the area.

Sources close to some constituency executives have confirmed that on several occasions, Mr. Dei has engaged the executives about his intention to contest the party’s primaries when nominations are opened.

However, a member of the executive has raised issues as to why a civil servant moved from his duty post in Accra to campaign for his personal interest at the expense of his required obligations to the state for which he is paid.

According to the executive member, the 1992 constitution drew a fine line between politics and civil service, thus beseeching the civil service commission to bring sanctions on Mr. Dei, who is using paid time to do active politics whilst still in the Civil Service.

Some other executive members this paper interacted with were of the view that Mr. Dei should as soon as possible resign his position at the Ministry and concentrate on politics as the law stipulates or sanctions should be brought on him for violating the principles of the State.

When this paper contacted Mr. Dei, he admitted that he had been meeting the executives but that his visit to the constituency was to “test the waters” because he intends contesting that seat.

As a result, he said it was important that he got acquainted with the challenges of the constituency in order to be in the position to articulate these concerns when he makes it to Parliament.

He was surprised however, that concerns are being raised over his association with the constituency executives, explaining that he only used his free time to visit the area to make good his interest in championing the cause of the constituency.
