Relegation Looming ? Ashgold File Protest Against Kotoko

The Ashgold (Miners) have filed a protest against their regional rivals, Asante Kotoko over the use of an unqualified player. Ashanti Gold fc have filed a protest against the league champions for the wrongful use of Obed Owusu and Atta Kusi who had both accumulated 3 yellow cards, before their 1-0 win over them last two weeks. Asante Kotoko piped the league leaders, Ashgold fc 1-0 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi on match day 24 of the First Capital Plus Premier League. However, the Miners have filed a protest for them to be declared winners, because prior to the game Obed Owusu and Atta Kusi were on three yellow cards each, which made the said players ineligible to feature in that game. According to sources from the camp of Ashgold, Kotoko rested these players in their Elite Cup defeat to Dunkwa United, but Elite Cup is not covered by the GFA status which is the bye law governing Ghana football. As a result of this Berekum Chelsea and WAFA could have won three points each if they had lost their league games against Kotoko and followed it with a protest for points deduction. Reports reaching Allsports.com.gh indicates that Hearts of Oak will also file a protest on Thursday on this same grounds to be declared winners of their match day 25 loss to Kotoko in Accra, because Owusu and Kusi had both not served their suspension during that game. The implication of the protest is that the champions of Ghana could lose 12 maximum points for those two games and would eventually fall in the relegation zone.
