Tarzans Interesting Take: Says Kufuor Is Difference Between NPP And NDC

A founding member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby has lauded Ghana’s former President, John Agyekum Kufuor saying his personality separates the NPP from the NDC.
Dr. Wereko-Brobby said this in an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show on Tuesday.

When asked by show host, Bernard Koku Avle the difference between the NDC and NPP, Dr. Wereko-Brobby gladly said “the difference is John Agyekum Kufuor.”

He said the former president defied the odds and rose to become the presidential candidate of the NPP and managed to bring the party into power in 2001.

“Kufuor had to fight the establishment of NPP to become presidential candidate and president. Kufuor was not the candidate of the party. The party hierarchy was against Kufuor. I even heard someone saying now that you have become the candidate we will see how you will fund your campaign.”

John Agyekum Kufuor served as Ghana’s president from 2001 to 2008 when the NDC took over the administration of the state from the NPP. “Kufuor was supposedly the head of the conservative business related party but he finished up doing the socially impactful projects in Ghana. And the reason I’m saying this is that it’s not the [NPP] party, it is Kufuor and his personality and his desire to manage things which in the end came true. I do not believe that any party is organized in such a way that there is some kind of collective leadership that is able to do anything,” he added.

Dr. Wereko-Brobby insisted that “this whole thing of a party is a sham. We have a situation where our basic problem is meeting the basic needs of the people so there is no ideology even though some people claim to be social democratic and so on.”

“I have come to the conclusion that there is all these façade; the only difference between the two of them is that the NDC understands that without power, you are nothing. The NPP believes in the argument and who wins the it. You have a situation where one side believes that it has all the intellectuals and capability but does not realize that forging a united party to win power is as important as winning he argument,” added Dr. Wereko-Brobby.
