Cuban Doctors To The Rescue As Ghanaian Doctors Abandon Patients

Over 150 Cuban doctors are ready to be deployed to the various public hospitals in the country to take care of patients abandoned by Ghana’s striking doctors.

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) last Friday embarked on a strike action meant to compel the government to yield to their demands concerning their condition of service.

During the strike, the doctors have been attending to only in-patients and emergency cases. However, they have served notice that from tomorrow, Friday, August, 2015, they will resign en bloc from the services of the government. The government says the condition of services that the doctors are demanding is too high.

Since the 90s, Cuban doctors have been working in many public hospitals in Ghana. They have often been relied upon to save lives of patients anytime doctors go on strike. During the era of ex-President, Cuban doctors took over from their Ghanaians counterparts who had gone on strike.

The government has already called in retired doctors to attend to patients at the various hospitals, doctors are seen busily attending to their patients having refused to embark on a strike action.
