<<Print>>The Daily Guide newspaper, owned by the First National Vice-Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has taken a swipe at the General Secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyepong, calling him arrogant, hypocrite, paranoid and “a mere dwarf” whose political career was currently in an abyss. In an editorial captioned, “Kwabena Agyepong’s Arrogance, Paranoia” the pro-NPP newspaper, accused the NPP General Secretary of having a “…filthy agenda against both his party and lately the DAILY GUIDE”.
The newspaper in its Wednesday edition, further accused Mr. Agyapong of being on a “devilish project” warning that “His mastery over covert machinations which he has used in his filthy and losing war of attrition in his own party, would not deter us from doing our work”. The editorial said, “We are emboldened by the fact that such devilish projects have always failed, especially when they are at the instance of arrogant persons steeped in hypocrisy”. It added that, they now appreciate why ex-President John Kufuor, had to sack Kwabena Agyapong from the then seat of government; The Castle as his Presidential Press Secretary.
The reason for this vitriolic attack on the NPP General Secretary is not known, as it was not stated in the paper, but what was clear is that, peace and unity is an unfamiliar language to Kwabena Agyapong and Freddie Blay, General Secretary and First Vice-Chairman, respectively. Below is the full text of the Daily Guide editorial of Wednesday, August 5; Kwabena Agyepong’s Arrogance, Paranoia Kwabena Agyepong has started a fight he is nowhere near winning. Not even the rented press consistently on his side can alter his gloomy fate as he wages a mischievous yet failing campaign against the DAILY GUIDE. He should have realised the futility of relying on the crude journalism practitioners to prosecute his filthy agenda against both his party and lately the DAILY GUIDE.
It is unfathomable why the embattled chief scribe of an opposition political grouping would ignore the realities of his waned authority and engage in pettiness such as throwing tantrums at a newspaper in front of which he is but a mere dwarf. He has so soon forgotten his many visits to the offices of the paper seeking one form of support or the other. Even as he stands on the precipice of his political career about to make the final leap of death, he continues to throw mud at the DAILY GUIDE seeking to blame the newspaper for his predicament. His incessant yet ineffective attacks on the paper have been noted with wanton contempt.
We on the newspaper wish to assure him that we are calling his bluff to do his worse. We are emboldened by the fact that such devilish projects have always failed, especially when they are at the instance of arrogant persons steeped in hypocrisy. His mastery over covert machinations which he has used in his filthy and losing war of attrition in his own party would not deter us from doing our work. His constant finger-pointing at the DAILY GUIDE as being the cause of his political woes only exposes his pettiness and ignorance of the workings of the newspaper industry. We would continue to highlight the effects of his arrogance and double standards on the progress of multi-party democracy in the country.
Now we appreciate what former President John Agyekum Kufuor went through when he contained this character in his fold. Little wonder when the cup got full Kufuor subtly showed him the exit. We and other Ghanaians have taken note of his flirtations with the rented press and how he does not spare any moment in spreading mendacious remarks about those he sees as threats. These are tendentious attempts at creating confusion in his own party; and it gives credence to the speculations about his agenda which unfortunately is nothing but a dashed dream. If this is how he thinks he can prosecute his personal political ambition, he must have a rethink.
The prognosis is not good for him. He should make the best of his tenure, the end of which would spell the termination of his political career as far as elections are concerned. The man needs a fresh orientation so he can live peacefully in a virile media environment, otherwise he would continue to take issues even with humour-studded cartoons. How pitiful! Holding such an important office and becoming inordinately paranoid is unwholesome and would rob him of a place in the comity of the respectful. The DAILY GUIDE, with all humility, for the information of Kwabena Agyepong, is Ghana’s favourite newspaper: no matter how hard he tries to bring it down he would fail as he has already done in his occupation as General Secretary of a political party.
