Korle-Bu Patients Angry Over Sanitation Fees

Investigations Conducted by the Daily Heritage have revealed that patients admitted to the biggest health facility in the country, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital are forced to pay sanitation fee as part of the hospital’s charges.

The development has angered patients who receive various services from the facility on the basis that patients pay cash before taking their bath and using the places of convenience at the facility.

Some of the patients who confirmed this to the paper indicated that they have paid various charges as part of their bills ranging from GH¢10.00 to GH¢100.00 depending on the number of days spent at the facility.

The paper’s investigation revealed further that on daily basis, a patient is charged not less than GH2.50p as sanitation fee far more expensive than what they pay in their various homes.

Speaking to the paper, a mother, Angelina Owusu whose daughter was admitted at the babies’ unit of the hospital complained about paying a fee of GH¢9.50 for using the place for four days.

Madam Owusu said “I and my mother were paying GH¢0.40 and GH¢0. 30 respectively for toilet and bath on regular basis and therefore cannot understand why we were billed sanitation fee.

“My daughter was two days old when I sent her to Korle-Bu; we paid before using the public loo and the bath house, how come I was billed GH¢9.50 as sanitation fee for four days?” she fumed.
