Nana Wiafe Akenten Warns GMA: Gods Punishment Will Be Deadly If Any Soul Perishes

NANA WIAFE Akenten III, the paramount chief of the Offinso Traditional Area in the Ashanti Region has pleaded with the Ghana Medical Association [GMA] to rescind their decision to embark on an indefinite strike.

Public hospitals across the country have been abandoned by doctors who are pushing for conditions of service and they have threatened to resign from the profession by August 14 if their demands are not met; a move that could cause a cataclysm in the health sector.

Due to this threat, Nana Wiafe Akenten on Okay FM’s "Ade Akye Ebia" Morning Show said the doctors may be right in their demands but reminded them it is not every soul that must be allowed to perish in the course of their ‘fight’.

“They have to realize that it is not every soul that must be punished due to strike; may be that soul may have something important to offer the country….let’s bear in mind that there is God and so any soul that will perish while God has given doctors the knowledge and skills to save lives but refuse due to something, the punishment that awaits you is huge; I say this in God’s name,” he warned.

He however urged the doctors to consider certain things while the negotiation is ongoing; fearing that the action of the doctors may coerce other professional bodies to join in the strike, adding that this will be a big blow to the progress of the country.

Nana Wiafe Akenten III therefore appealed to the conscience of Ghanaians to eschew individualism and partisan party-politics and not leave the development of the country to President Mahama, the NDC and the ministers alone to run.

"...it should be everybody’s responsibility to join hands, minds and knowledge to help the President without forgetting that the country growth should be everybody’s paramount concern," he added.
