Resigning Won't Solve Your Problems - Peace Council To Doctors

Chairman of National Peace Council has called on the striking doctors to, as a matter of urgency, rescind their decision to resign en masse and come to a compromise with government.

Most Rev. Professor Emmanuel Asante is of the view that, the doctors’ decision to resign en masse if their demands are not met will not only risk the lives of poor Ghanaians but rather break the nation as a whole.

“I’m pleading with our doctors to compromise fairly with government and vice versa because the lives of the ordinary Ghanaian is at stake.

“As the chairman of the peace council, I’m very much passionate about this issue and so we beg them to rescind their decision because their plan of resigning will never solve their problems,” he stated.

Public hospitals across the country have been abandoned by doctors who are pushing for conditions of service.

The doctors under the umbrella name Ghana Medical Association (GMA) have threatened to resign from the profession by August 14 if their demands are not met, a move that has caused a calamity in the health sector.

Government Sunday met with the leadership of the striking medical professionals hoping to reach an agreement over their conditions of service.

The lengthy meeting, which lasted all day, was yet another disappointing negotiating exercise because it hit a snag.

But Professor Emmanuel Asante on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Monday charged government communicators to desist from inciting Ghanaians against the doctors.

“Politicians must also cease their blame game and allow the rightful
institutions to take charge of the issue because their talks on this particular issue are rather worsening matters,” he added.
