Greater-Accra CPP Elects Regional Executives

The Greater-Accra Regional Congress of the Convention People's Party (CPP) has been held in Accra, to elect regional executives to steer the affairs of the party in the region. The Congress, the ninth in a series of regional elections held by the party, brought together executives of 31 out of the 34 constituencies in the region, on the theme: "CPP Is NotFor Sale." Madam Samia Yaaba Nkrumah, National Chairperson of the CPP, said the party remained a strong and united force that could develop and improve the living conditions of Ghanaians. She said the vision of the founde, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, was cut short by the illegal overthrow of his government, and that the implementation of the vision remained the focus of the party. Madam Nkrumah stressed the need for loyalty, dedication, commitment, and courageous executives, to advance the party's vision and realize its aspirations. She said there was the need for Ghana to have economic and resource freedom and justice from the west, and that this would strengthen the spirit of Ghanaians, to exhibit patriotism for real development. The National Chairperson said the management of the party in the last few years was not easy, but for the commitment and dedication of members, it was running smoothly. Dr Foster Abu Sakara, the Party's 2012 Presidential Candidate, said the CPP was the only political party that could make Ghana a better place for its citizens to live in But this he said required the membership's loyalty, dedication and commitment to the advancement and forward march that envisaged the progress of the party in winning elections. Mr Ivor Kwabena Greenstreet, General Secretary of the party, said there was no reason why the CPP could not win a Parliamentary seat in the General Elections. He urged the delegates to vote for candidates who had the same beliefs, capacity, desire and experience as executives, to steer the affairs of the party in the region. Dr Fletcher, Greater-Accra Regional Chairman said, some officers were interested in positions, and not work and that delegates should give the mandate to people ready to work for the party to achieve results in winning elections. Mr Mathew Kwasi Obeng Boadu was elected with 139 votes as the Regional Chairman by beating Mr Mamshie Omar Bawa who polled 64 votes, while Mr Emmanuel Nii Anyankor polled 135 votes to beat Madam Kate Quaye as the First Vice Chairman. The Regional Education Secretary, Fredrick Martey polled 136 votes to beat Mr Thomas Abroni with 61 votes, and Women Organizer, Madam Felicia Akorli polled 140 votes to beat Madam Cynthia Mensah who secured 65 votes. The positions of the Second Vice Regional Chairman, Mr Elijah Nii Sei Adams, Regional Secretary, Mr Richard Nat Nyano, Regional Treasure, Mr Ebenezer Arthur, Regional Organizer, Koo Mensah, and Regional Youth Organizer, Yirimambo Moses Ambing, were contested unopposed. The oaths of office and secrecy were administered by the National Chairperson Madam Nkrumah to the newly elected executives. Among National Officers present at the Congress were Professor Edmund Delle, former National Chairman, Lawyer Emmanuel Bright Akwetey, Chairman, Legal and Constitutional Committee, and Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim, National Women's Organizer.
