NPP's NEC Has No Role In The Appointment Of Campaign Manager - Sir John

Former General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party [NPP], Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie says there is no truth in the report that the party’s flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo has selected four [4] persons for approval by the National Executive Committee [NEC], one of which will be chosen as the Campaign Manager.

According to Sir John, as he is affectionately called, it is a known fact from the days of the late Professor Adu-Boahen to former President Kufuor that the campaign manager position has never been contested by any group of people.

Speaking on Okay Fm’s "Ade Akye Abia" Morning Show, Sir John says the choice of the party’s flagbearer for the Campaign Manager position is not in consultation of the National Executive Committee [NEC].

He explained that Nana Akufo-Addo would have made his choice of the Campaign Manager before meeting the NEC to introduce the person to the committee and not for its approval as has been erroneously churned out.

Our party activists understand that the campaign manager position is not being contested. It is not a position which people can compete for like the position of the General Secretary and so it is not true that Nana Akufo-Addo has settled down on 4 people for NEC to select one; the process for appointing campaign manager is not like that,” he highlighted.

He emphasized that “Nana Akufo-Addo is the flagbearer and he has the sole responsibility to name who leads his campaign team; this is not the first time we are going to appoint a campaign manager and so nobody will ever question his decision because we have never had any issue in the past concerning campaign manager”.

He however assured that Nana Akufo-Addo is going to make the right choice of a campaign manager; adding he has never seen Nana Addo gone wrong with his choice of campaign manager, stressing "he won’t get it wrong this time".
