I'll Resign If President Akufo Addo Fails - Sammi Awuku

National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammi Awuku has said that he will resign from his position if the party’s 2016 flagbearer, Nana AkufoAddo and his running mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia fails Ghanaian youth within a year if the NPP comes to power in 2016 elections. According to Awuku, he will sack himself as a national officer of the party if the NPP fails to restore hope to the Ghanaian youth.

“I’m confident that a year into an NPP government, the youth of Ghana will see a turnaround of our country...if that doesn’t happen in the second year of the NPP administration, I would have no choice than to resign,” Sammi Awuku told host of Adom FM on Wednesday. He noted that his term of office will expire in 2018 but if their party leader and his running mate who he hopes will manage the country’s affairs better when elected fails the youth of Ghana within a year of coming to power, he will resign.

“I put my credibility on the line and I really trust Nana Akufo Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia because they have assured me of changing the destiny of Ghanaian youth within a year but if they fail to do so, I will humbly resign without any argument,” Sammi Awuku said. Discussing the role of the youth in Ghana, Sammi Awuku said during former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s regime, he created conducive environment and also supported Ghanaian youth on the job market which he believes Akufo Addo will do same.

He said the previous NPP Government created jobs for the youth of the country through schemes such as the National Youth Employment Programme, and also implemented programmes such as the National Health Insurance Scheme and Free Health Care for pregnant women. “Under former president Kufuor, the youth was getting the necessary loan supporting systems which motivated them and even created more entrepreneurs in the country and I know Akufo Addo will surely do same,” the NPP’s National Youth Organizer emphasized.

Awuku stated that the NPP will support small start up youths with incentives which will encourage the youth to be self-employed without solely depending on the government under Akufo Addo’s government.
