Unilever Ghana Supports 20th GJA Awards

Unilever Ghana has presented GH₵ 5,000 to support this years Ghana Journalist Association Awards (GJA) to be held on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at the State Banquet Hall. The donation was in support of the Sanitation and Hygiene Reporting Award, which is in line with Unilevers mission to make sustainable living a commonplace. Ms Maidie Arkutu, Managing Director of Unilever Ghana, speaking at the ceremony, said: Our support for Media fraternity is not new, as early as 1972. She said UAC of Ghana, the predecessor company of Unilever Ghana, saw the great potential of the media and the key role journalists could play in national development. She said the Media could play a significant role in the agenda of behaviour change, providing consumers with information about issues relevant to living improved and better lives. Ms Arkutu said: The objective for sponsoring this award is to value the work of media and professionals in raising awareness on the importance of good sanitation and hygiene practices. This award recognises not only the journalist but also the work that brings out relevant information in the sector of sanitation and hygiene. Journalists are key partners in behavioural change and advocacy work, she added. The Managing Director said the media greatly contribute to bringing on to the spotlight the too often neglected issues of the necessity of toilets and hand washing for a dignified, safe and healthy life for millions of people. Mr Affail Monney, President of GJA, receiving the cheque, thanked management of Unilever for the immense support over the years towards the Awards and urged the company not to relent in its efforts to support the GJA in other events.
