Contractor Defiles Girl, 10

A 35-year-old contractor has appeared before an Accra circuit court for allegedly defiling a ��10-year-old girl. The accused, Humble Asare-Sakyi Kwabena, is said to have had sexual intercourse with the minor on July 29 this year in an uncompleted building at Teshie, a suburb of Accra. According to the prosecutor, D/Insp. Kofi Atimbiri, the accused perpetrated the act after the girl had gone on an errand for him. Charged with defilement, Humble, appearing before trial judge Ms. Patricia Quansah, denied the offence and was remanded until August 27, 2015. D/Insp. Atimbiri, briefing the court, said the complainant, Happy Amenorwota, is the mother of the victim while the accused is a building contractor resident at Teshie in the same vicinity with the complainant. He said at about 3pm on the said day, the victim returned from school and saw Asare-Sakyi Kwabena sitting on a short fence wall in the area, who invited her and gave her GH�10 to buy him distilled water and bread. The police officer said Humble quickly directed the victim on her return from the errand, to send the items to an uncompleted storey building, adding that immediately the minor entered the building, the accused, who had already spread a bed sheet on the floor in one of the rooms with intent to defile the victim, followed her, covered her month with a cloth and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her. D/Insp. Atimbiri said after the act, Humble gave her GH�10 and warned her not to disclose the incident to anyone else, she would die. He stated that the victim went home but kept the incident to herself out of fear until her mother detected that her walking had changed. The prosecutor said upon the mother�s interrogation, the little girl told her (Happy) about her ordeal in the hands of Humble. D/Insp. Atimbiri said at about 5:30 am on August 7, the victim, her mother and her two sons mobilized themselves and went to the scene where the victim identified the Kwabena as the culprit and was later apprehended.
