Ghana�s Ambassador to Cuba, John Tia Akologo has refuted reports that some twenty Ghanaian student medical doctors in Cuba are stranded in Cuba due to unpaid allowances.
According to him, the delays are as a result of the inability of some of the student doctors to complete requirements to process their documents.
�It is not true that they are stranded and that they cannot go home because this embassy has made all arrangements for those of them who have finished transcribing their academic documents into English to the embassy�when they graduate they are supposed to transcribe all their documents from Spanish into English to enable the Ghanaian authorities take further action,� he said.
About 20 Ghanaian medical students are reported to be stranded in Cuba for the non-payment of their allowances for the past eight months.
The situation according to the students has made life unbearable for them as they have resorted to borrowing from their colleagues from other countries.
Some of the students who spoke to Citi News say they are likely to miss out on the deadline for their medical examinations in Ghana if government does not come to their aid.
Speaking on Eyewitness News, the Ambassador, John Tia Akologo who conceded that government has not paid the allowances for the past eight months however indicated that the embassy is ready to assist students who want to return to Ghana.
�We have told them those who are willing could go home now, and then when the allowances are made, we will make arrangements and send the monies to them,� he added.
