The Techiman Circuit Court, presided over by Justice Emmanuel Opare, has sentenced 57-year-old Musah Zakari, a resident of Jato Zongo in the Atebubu-Amantin in the Brong Ahafo Region, to 10 years’ imprisonment in hard labour for having sex on numerous occasions with his 16-year-old daughter.

Chief Superintendent Joseph Dzinaku, the Police Commander for the Atebubu-Amantin District, told The Finder that the 16-year-old girl came to the police to report the ordeal she was going through at the hands of her father.

The police did a follow-up and arrested the father, and upon interrogation, he admitted to having had sex with the daughter on five occasions. He was subsequently arranged before the Techiman Circuit Court, where he was tried and jailed for 10 years in hard labour.

The girl, name withheld, narrating her ordeal to The Finder, said, "My father started having sex with me at the age of 14. Anytime he had sex with me, he threatens me that if I disclosed what has happened he would kill me. I can recollect 24 occasions my father had sex with me."

She said anytime he is going to have sex with her, he asks her to take drug so that she does not get pregnant.

According to her, when she saw that the situation was becoming unbearable, she reported the incident. The father became angry as a result, so she left to stay with her uncle, but her father later threatened to make the uncle mad and also kill him.

"I later went and stayed with a woman at Kessei Nkwanta; he told me to come so that we have a discussion on the issue. He advised me to say that what I said that he was having sex with me is not true but it was my uncle who instigated me to say that, but I declined to say that; later I reported the case to the police," she revealed.
