TMA Names Street After P. V. Obeng

The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), has named a roundabout and its adjourning street at Tema Community Three after the late Mr Paul Victor Obeng. The naming of the roundabout and street is to immortalised Mr P. V. Obeng, who resided in the Metropolis for many decades before his demise. Mr Obeng, who was an engineer, businessman and politician died at age 67 on May 17, 2014 and was buried on August 15, 2014. Until his death, he was the Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), and chairman of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Council, and many other establishments. Mr Isaac Ashai Odamtten, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, speaking at the street naming ceremony, said the roundabout and the road linking it to the Meridian Road had been named P. V. Obeng Avenue. Mr Odamtten said the street naming would remind residents of the enormous contributions of the l P. V. Obeng to the Metropolis and the country. He explained that PV had deep thoughts about the regeneration of Tema and restoring it to its former glory. "His ideas were deep and it will transcend generations to come," he stated. The MCE said PV was one of the few politicians who were admired by people across the political divide. According to him, landscaping at the roundabout would bemimproved while roads connecting to it from the frontage of the TDCmthrough to Tema Senior High School, to the roundabout to Community Two roads would be asphalted, as part of some 20 kilometres of roads to receive a face lift in the Metropolis. Mr Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, eulogised P. V. Obeng and urged the youth to emulate his humility and commitment to the development of the country.
