NPP Training RebelsFor 2016, E/R NDC Alleges

The Eastern regional secretariat of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the national security and the Ghana Police Service to investigate and stop the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) from further training party security men with the intent of empowering them to undertake key operations in the country during the 2016 polls.

The Eastern regional chairman of the NDC, Bismark Tawiah Boateng, said there is a leaked document which reveals that during a strategic workshop for representatives of ‘Nana Akufo-Addo For President 2016 Movement’ in Accra, the group highlighted on plans to “train party security to empower them to take positions when necessary.”

But, when contacted, Nana Kwaku Dua, national secretary of ‘Nana Akufo-Addo For President 2016 Movement,’ dared the NDC regional chairman to submit his documents to the security agencies for the appropriate action.

He said Mr Boateng only wants to divert attention from the ongoing strike by the Ghana Medical Association.

He said his outfit has not organized any security workshop for any purpose during the 2016 polls.

Speaking to the DAILY HERITAGE in an interview, the NDC regional chairman alleged that the group has zoned the country into five strategic security camps to embark on its operations. He mentioned the camps as Volta/Eastern, Western / Ashanti, Brong Ahafo/Northern, Greater Accra/Central region and Upper West/Upper East regions.

The move, according to the regional chairman, is “diabolic with ill intent” explaining that, apart from the constitutionally established security agencies, “nobody or group has the right to train any private security to partake in election activities without approval from the police.”

Mr Boateng further alleged that the move is part of NPP's diabolic plans to mar the 2016 elections with violence through its trained ‘rebels.’

He again alleged that the NPP cannot be detached from the recent labour unrest, particularly, the ongoing strike by the Ghana Medical Association explaining that, at the strategic workshop by the ‘Nana Akufo-Addo For President 2016 Movement,’ held in Accra, representatives from union groups and professional bodies were present at the workshop.

He said the Eastern regional secretariat has in its possession all deliberations and discussions which transpired at the said workshop and will at the right time come out with full disclosure.
