My Links With Presidency Key For Dev't - Kwame Dzokoto

Renowned Comedian, actor and entertainer, Seth Kwame Dzokoto, has said his “friendship” with the presidency is what the people of Tarkwa Nsuaem constituency need to resurrect the area which is bedevilled with many infrastructural problems.

Mr. Dzokoto is the latest of the many media practitioners in the country contesting the 2016 general election. He joins the likes of Abeiku Santana, Mfantseman West, Eric Don Arthur, Effutu, and Obuobia Darko-Opoku, Weija, all on the ticket of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

While confirming to the Daily Heritage his decision to contest the upcoming primaries, he said, it is pathetic that the Tarkwa Nsuaem constituency has not got what it deserves. He added that his experience as a broadcaster is what the people need to lobby for developmental projects for the area.

“It’s quite pathetic our constituency is still not developed, some of these things you need somebody who can lobby, you need somebody who can use his friendship to get things done,” he pointed out.

Touching on media practitioners venturing into politics, he said, “It’s an opportunity for people to see what we can do. It’s time we get what we want .We should get what we deserve and I’m saying that they should give us (Journalists) the opportunity to serve them.

“Journalists are perceived to be people who say the truth so when we get there they will know whether we speak the truth or not, so it’s an opportunity to either expose our hypocrisy or see what is hidden in us.”

He told the paper that he nursed the idea to contest the seat two years ago when they were carrying out a communal labour.

“It is true that I’m contesting the Tarkwa Nsuaem seat. When the youth started this thing, I thought they were joking because it was such a simple communal labour thing that we were doing and they said that I should go for the thing, and all that. So they are really ready to back me and push me to represent them in parliament.”

Tough seat

The renowned broadcaster, while admitting that the seat has been won by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for a long time said he has identified the challenges and how to address them as the main tool to wrestle the seat from the NPP.

Education

He was of the view that the main weapon to give to the constituency is quality education and the need for them to appreciate the importance of education.

In his response to things he would address when given the mandate, he said, “I will say that first of all, I will be with the old people and explain to them the reason we need to push our children to go to school, because what I have realized is that, when job comes they say you don’t pick us but you bring people from Accra.

“But, if the people are seeking for a geologist and you are not a geologist why should you be picked?”
