The people of Garu-Kpatia, joined by Mr Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff, and a delegation from government, on Saturday celebrated the life of the late Alhaji Imoro Ayarna, a former Minister of State in the First Republic.
Alhaji Ayarna died at his hometown, Garu-Kpatia, in the Upper East Region, last July at the age of 93 years.
He was a member of the northern territory traditional council and later appointed as Ministerial Secretary in the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources in 1952.
Alhaji Ayarna was described as someone who had a sensitive social conscience combined with a genuine and supportive interest in people and their quest for success.
Due to his hard work he was awarded with the Grand Order of the Volta in 2007.
Mr Albert Akuka Alalzuuga, District Chief Executive of Garu-Tempane, described the late Ayarna as a visionary pacesetter whose life experience and achievements had inspired the new generation.
He commended government for giving him such recognition, saying that would motivate the younger generation in the area to put in more effort at improving themselves and contributing to the development of the country.
