NPP Cash Intact...Allegations Against Treasurer Fall Flat

Attempts by some 'infiltrators' to draw a wedge between the National Treasurer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mr. Abankwa Yeboah and his party executives, regarding ongoing allegations of misappropriation of party funds has fallen flat in the face of proper scrutiny and concrete evidence.

At the recently held NEC meeting at the Africa Regent Hotel, it was established that the National Treasurer had lodged the said funds in the party's account with the Trust Towers branch of ECOBANK and had invested the funds in treasury bills in the name of the party.

According to sources, that account has been functional and had served the purpose of the party in the previous administration and there were no incidence or issues over that until now. So the attempt to make it look as if its a new bank account where party funds have secretly been diverted is so untrue and baseless.

But the current underlining the rancour between the first vice chairman of the party and the treasurer on one side against the Party Chairman and Secretary on the other stems out of turf war and needless show of who is really in charge.

It was also established at the NEC meeting that the General Secretary had misapplied an amount of Ghc3.8 million without recourse to the National Treasurer and the NEC.

The national chairman and general Secretary of the new patriotic party, Mr Paul Afoko and Mr Kwabena Agyepong on their part is alleged to have sidelined the national treasurer and opened an account at the GCB Accra North branch and transferred 10,000.00 to each constituency, contrary to what was agreed at a NEC meeting in connection with the last primaries the party organised.

There are indications that efforts by the national treasurer to get details of all transfer have proved futile, thus compelling him to write three reminders for details of transfers and statements of accounts to reconcile the party's accounts with all the activities done by the two men. But this simple request has failed to see the light of day because the general Secretary has blatantly refused to sign the letters together with the national treasurer. This development had therefore made it impossible for him to prepare a comprehensive report concerning the parliamentary primaries held in June this year.

The NEC of the party is however expected to meet this week for appraisals amongst other issues.
