Akwatia Victory Is A Pyrrhic oneOhene Ntow

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Ohene Ntow, has asserted that the NDC knew they will taste defeat in Akwatia yet went ahead and contested the polls. Counting the cost of the victory, on PEACEFMs KOKROKOO, today (Wednesday), 19th August, 2009, in a post-election assessment of the just ended re-run of the 6 Polling Stations in Akwatia, the NPP Chief Scribe described the victory as a pyrrhic one considering the level of injuries sustained by NPP members and the wanton destruction of property in the area. Nana Ohene Ntow also lashed at the security agencies for what he termed as their lack of proactiveness, which he claims contributed largely to the ugly scenes of violence and chaos that characterized the Akwatia polls. Touching on the upcoming Cheriponi Constituency bye-election, Nana Ohene Ntow opined that, if the security agencies perform like they did in Akwatia, then Im afraid, I dont know weve to be very careful. Meanwhile, the NDC says it has already petitioned the Electoral Commission (EC) prior to the re-run, regarding some 4 Polling Stations in Akyem Wenchi, all in Akwatia. The NDC believes there were widespread irregularities in those polling stations.
