There's A Huge Gap Between ISIS And Islam...National Security Must Check Their Rambo Style - Atik

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has come under the microscope of many Ghanaians for allegedly breeding a student aspiring to become a terrorist in the future.

Reports indicated that Nazir Nortei Alema, a KNUST graduate, had joined the terrorist Islamic sect - Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) - after writing to his family about his earnest interest in the group.

Nazir, who according to his father, had been expressing extremist Islamic views, initially informed the family that he was travelling to Takoradi in the Western Region, but later disclosed that he has gone to join the ISIS.

This has raised several concerns about the security of the nation.

Speaking to the issue on PeaceFM's "Kokrokoo", the aspiring General Secretary of the People's National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed criticized national security for failing to amass intelligence on the KNUST graduate's association with the ISIS.

According to him, the national security should not glory in the rambo style to which they approach issues of national concern but rather begin to invest much time and energy in intelligence gathering.

He expressed disgust at the security forces because to him; "they neglect the very core reason for the establishment of the institution that we call national security. Lets go and harass, (you know) occasioning fear and panic to ordinary Ghanaians. These are some things that we sometimes see as being the functions [let me say as being the wrong functions] of the national security outfit...Were not investing in intelligence. Intelligence is the resource of power.

Atik Mohammed further lambasted the Islamic terrorist group for their extreme doctrines about the Islamic faith.

To him, the ISIS beliefs and activities defy the sanctity of Islam.

You cant attribute their activities to Islam. Theres a huge gap between Islam and what the terrorists doHow can a Muslim go and kill a fellow Muslim, and say that I am doing this in defense and in the name of Islam? It doesnt make sense.
