We Should Discuss Voters Register Issue With Humility And Sense Of Reasoning - Kabila

Director of Elections for the Convention People’s Party (CPP), James Kwabena Bomfeh, says the entrenched position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the voters’ register is not helping to have a fruitful discussion.

According to the aspiring General Secretary of the CPP, the NPP should not be seen to be obstinate about their call for a new voters’ register but approach their demand with “humility and sense of reasoning.”

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on the Electoral Commission to make new voters’ register as their investigation has shown that Ghana’s voters’ register has about 76,286 Togolese nationals on it.

Due to this revelation, the NPP has written to other international bodies to intervene in their demand for a new register, even though the Electoral Commission has shown interest in the NPP’s proposal by calling for views over the voters’ register.

But commenting on the NPP’s insistence for a new voters’ register, Kabila as he is affectionately called, on Okay Fm’s "Ade Akye Abia" Morning Show, said the attitude of the largest opposition NPP over the voters’ register is not the best.

He averred that the Electoral Commission cannot be subjected to political interference in Ghana and other international bodies.

“Writing to other countries to interfere in their request for a new voters’ register maybe a strategy to persuade the EC to accept their proposal but we cannot discuss the voters’ register with the mind that whatever the NPP is demanding for should be granted at all cost,” he opined.

“We should discuss the issue to ascertain whether the NPP’s proposal should trigger for a new voters’ register or accept other ideas which suggest that there should be a way to prevent foreigners and minors from registering”, he added.
