Nana Addo Can Win With Sympathy Votes

The former MP for Akim Oda in the Eastern Region, Mr Yaw Osafo Maafo, has openly voiced out support for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2012 Presidential Elections. Mr Yaw Osafo opined that Nana Addo can win the 2012 elections for the NPP based on the sympathy vote syndrome just Prof. Mills did. According to him, a cursory look at the Presidential electoral history of this country shows that no candidate has won the Presidential Seat in his first attempt. He cited former President Rawlings and Ex-President Kufuor as examples, and added that President Mills lost in 2000 and 2004, but was successful in 2008 as a result of the sympathy votes he garnered. So I believe Nana Addo can do likewise through sympathy votes in 2012, he stressed. The one-time presidential aspirant of the NPP who also headed the Ministry of Finance was expressing his views in an interview on Peace FMs Kokrokoo on the upcoming Extraordinary National Delegates Conference, where some sweeping reforms or amendments are expected to be discussed. Mr Osafo Maafo welcomed suggestions for the expansion of the partys Electoral College which will see a remarkable increase in the number of delegates and described it as a good idea which will eventually help the party re-gain power in 2012.
