Dr. Bawumia Is Destroying His Credibility With Politics; Hes Been Dishonest As A Statistician - Otokunor

The statistical presentation by the opposition New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) Running Mate for the 2016 general election, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia finding fault with the voters’ register has been floored by the ruling NDC Deputy Director of Research, Peter Otokunor.

According to him, the NPP’s presentations cum proposals led by Dr. Bawumia to discredit the voters’ register of being infiltrated by Togolese nationals is an exercise in intellectual dishonesty as a statistician of good standing.

Speaking on OKAY FM’s "Ade Akye Abia" Morning Show, Peter Otokunor asserted that careful analysis into the NPP’s proposal has shown that they have no good intentions towards Ghanaians.

He indicated that the issues raised by the NPP cannot stand the test of statistical analysis; asserting that there is nothing wrong with the voters’ register but rather they are pursuing agenda which is why they are creating that impression of bloated voters’ register.

He pointed out that it was an abysmal performance of Dr. Bawumia to compare the compiled 2012 voters’ register to the 2010 population census; knowing that Ghana’s population grow annually at a rate of 2.5 percent.

He emphasized that per the 2.5 percent rate of growth annually, Dr. Bawumia should have instead used the adjusted population to do his analysis and not the 2010 population census.

“Bawumia has been so dishonest to himself as a Statistician because I am sure any professional statistician will raise doubt about Dr. Bawumia’s analysis. Bawumia is destroying his credibility with politics,” he chided.

Debunking the claim that the population census does not compute with the voters’ population, Peter Otokunor slated that people are more enthused to go for voters’ registration than staying for population census because the voters’ ID cards helps a lot of people to do transactions in the country.

He stressed that this factor forces people to come out for the voters’ registration exercise than for the population census; defusing the NPP’s claim that the 2012 voters’ register is bloated.
