"We've Not Released Presidential Nomination Forms To Anybody" - NDC Dir of Elections

Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, First National Vice-Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), says the party Secretariat has not officially opened Presidential nominations for party members.

Speaking on "Kokrokoo" on Peace FM, Mr. Ofosu Ampofo, who is also the Director of Elections of the NDC, put on record that no party Presidential aspirant has officially picked nomination forms.

According to him, the National Executive Council held series of meeting and outlined the procedures before nominations are opened in the party.

“I can confidently say that the party has not released officially our Presidential nomination form to anybody. When we met as NEC and enacted the laws, we said we will send the nomination form for the various constituencies in the region to the Regional Chairman and the Secretary. We have designated all of them; every region has been designated…Then the Chairman and the Secretary will dispatch representatives to all the constituencies because constituencies Secretaries are responsible at the constituency Secretariat to sell the forms.”

Commenting on claims by George Boateng, an NDC member who wants to contest President John Mahama that he has picked up his nomination form and paid the non-refundable Filing Fee of GHC 50000, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo indicated that it is the only party's General Secretary who has sole right to issue the nomination forms.

And until the forms are sealed by the General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah; no party member can claim he has picked his or her nomination form to stand against the President; Mr. Ofosu Ampofo noted.

“With regard to the national one, the General Secretary is the authorized person to issue out nomination forms to anybody...he holds custody of the seal of the party."

He however disclosed that George Boateng's nomination form was issued out to him by an Accountant at the party office and so, the NEC will launch investigation into it to unearth the truth.

“It is an internal matter which is under investigation…It is not a form that has been legally sealed by the party…If he wants to come, he has to do it again.

“As far as I am concerned, as far as (I) my position of Director for elections and the General Secretary is concerned; we have not sold any party Presidential nomination form to anybody.”
