Juventus Ignore Kwadwo Asamoah For Champions League Group Stage

The Ghana international is conspicuously missing from the Bianconeris roster to challenge for a knock-out stage place in the elite competition. Juventus midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah has been left out of a 23-man squad set to partake in the group stage of the 2015-16 Uefa Champions League. Coach Massimiliano Allegri, whose side have been drawn in Group D alongside Manchester City, Sevilla and Borussia Monchengladbach, opted against picking the 26-year-old Ghana international for the early part of the competition which resumes on September 15. Asamoah first visited the treatment room in November 2014 after suffering a knee injury on the left leg. Having failed to make a quick recovery, he underwent surgery in December, effectively ruling him out of action for a further four months including the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea. In May 2015, the ex-Liberty Professionals playmaker appeared to have regained fitness after playing full throttle in Juventus penultimate Serie A tie against Napoli ahead of the 2014-15 Champions League final which he missed. However, the midfielder was left out of notable pre-season games against Borussia Dortmund, Lechia Gdansk and Olympic Marseille ahead of the new season after Juventus confirmed a setback in the players rehabilitation. In spite of his latest omission, the former Udinese man is expected to resume full training this week as the Old Lady announced on August 14 that Asamoah would be able to train again with team-mates in approximately three weeks. Should his recovery go on as anticipated, he could be back in action for Juventus when they host Chievo Verona on September 12, and could also be registered should the Italian champions make it to the knock-out stage of the Champions League.
