Peace FM's "Kojo Dickson" Sentenced for Impersonation

A 54-year-old teacher, Andy Allotey, who posed as Peace FM�s Newscaster, Mr Kojo Dickson, has been punished by a District Magistrate Court at Akim Oda, presided over by His Worship, Mr Albert Owusu Annor. The Court imposed a fine of GH�300.00 or in default 12 months in jail with hard labour. The facts of the case as presented by Chief Inspector Benjamin Osei Kwadwo, indicates that the complainant is the Assemblyman of Akim � Asuoso, while the accused person claims to be a teacher. On 12th of March, 2009, at about 10am, Andy Allotey visited the complainant at Akim Asuoso and introduced himself as Kojo Dickson, a news reporter with Peace FM, a radio station in Accra.The accused person then informed the complainant that an NGO based in Accra has sent him to the town to meet the Assemblyman, Chiefs and elders to inform them about their readiness to assist the town undertake some developmental projects. According to Chief Inspector Osei Kwadwo, the complainant then became suspicious of the accused as he (complainant) personally knew Kojo Dickson as a news caster with Peace FM. The complainant demanded to have a look at the accused person�s identity card which the latter could not produce. The accused person then made an attempt to run away but was pursued and arrested by the youth of the town and sent to the Akroso Police Station. Upon interrogation by the Police, the accused person admitted the offence but reserved the right to make further comments until he was processed for court. The Akroso Police subsequently charged him and arraigned him before court.
