Dont Blame Afoko And Agyepong; I Reported Treasurer And Vice Chair To Police - Baah Acheamfuor

As it is uncertain in the media who reported the opposition NPP’s National Treasurer, Abankwa Yeboah and the First Vice Chairman, Freddie Blay to the CID of the Ghana Police Service, the NPP’s activist, Baah Acheamfuor  has professed he is behind the report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service is investigating the First Vice-Chair of the New Patriotic Party, Mr Freddie Blay and the Treasurer, Mr Abankwa Yeboah, over the alleged diversion of party funds.

According to a police investigation letter dated August 26, 2015 and signed by Rev. Dedjoe, the Deputy Director-General of the CID, on behalf of the Director-General of the department, extended to the two executive members, they had expended party funds without resorting to laid down procedure.

Upon the investigation letter, Mr. Freddie Blay has confirmed the invitation but told the media that he would not honor it.

“If it is invitation, I am declining, but if they are arresting me, then I have no choice. They should come and arrest me,” he said.

Mr. Blay however alleged that Mr. Afoko had reported the matter to the police CID who had invited him for questioning; thus, the invitation of the Police CID came after the party’s National Chairman, Paul Afoko had stated that the NPP will not condone any act corruption in the party.

But Baah Acheamfuor on Okay Fm’s "Ade Akye Abia" Morning Show, confessed that he is solely behind the report of the two executives to the Police CID to investigate the where-about of the party’s Gh¢7 million accrued from the NPP’s Parliamentary elections.

He maintained he reported to the Police CID because the party’s Treasurer and the First Vice-Chair have violated the NPP’s financial procedure and the financial laws of the country by reactivating the party’s dormant Ecobank account without a resolution from General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong or the National Chair, Paul Afoko.

“Nobody should blame Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong for the complaint made to the Police CID at the Headquarters; I reported that there is certain financial malfeasance going on in the party which violates the status quo of the party. I reported the case to the Police on August 18, 2015”, he professed.

He further explained that “the party raised GH¢7 million and it was expected that the money would be deposited into the party’s official account at GCB…I had information that the money has rather been deposited into NPP’s dormant Ecobank account without resorting to approval from the General Secretary and National Chairman.”

He added that the needed resolution from the General Secretary and the National Chairman before the reactivation of the dormant account was not met; revealing that Mr. Abankwa Yeboah, National Treasurer and the First Vice-Chair are the sole signatory to that dormant account at Ecobank.

“Even with that, the Ecobank has breached the law and so I included in the complaint the branch manager of the Ecobank at Trust Towers for investigation to ascertain whether he followed procedure before reactivating that dormant account,” he mentioned.
