Sampson Ahi Under Pressure

Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, one of the key financiers of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), a farmer and an accountant by profession has picked nomination forms to contest the upcoming primaries in the Bodi district of the Western Region.

Residents of Bodi community, the home town of the incumbent Member of Parliament, Sampson Ahi, doubling as the deputy minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing welcomed Mr Ansah when he picked his forms on August 31.

People from communities including Sefwi Kwasikrom, Amoya, Besease, Bokabo, Patakoro, Akomkrom, Datano, Benomnsuo, Afere, Aseliwa, Bepoase, Awudomi, Ayibenso, Ataabokaa and Asuono A and B among others were present to support the candidate.

Some of the residents who spoke to the paper in an interview said they have lost confidence in the incumbent MP, Mr. Ahi since he has over the past 12 years in office failed to roll out remarkable developmental projects in the constituency.

When this reporter arrived at Bodi, he observed that as a district capital, it has for many years been denied a befitting party office. Party executives operate in rented store.

The dusty nature of the office's environs and poor nature of roads at the district capital including other remote communities was absolutely nothing to write home about.

Twelve years since he assumed office, communities such as Kwasikrom and Afere lack public lavatory including myriads of challenges in several communities such as the lack of health facilities, absence of midwifery services, lack of street lights, poor road networks, lack of qualified teachers for academic work and prevailing dilapidated classroom blocks among others.

“We have entertained him for so long and we think this is the right time to kick him out of office for a better candidate to take his place,” an aggrieved resident challenged.

Picking his nomination forms, the aspirant in an interview with the paper pledged to, in a matter of weeks, put into a better state the district party office.

He further announced that if voted for, he will facilitate the face-lifting of the district by introducing convincing developmental projects in the district, promote peace and unity and pull more votes for the party come 2016 parliamentary and presidential elections.
