Osagyefo Cup To Be Launched On September 10

The fifth edition of the Annual Osagyefo Cup Competition would be launched on Thursday, September 10, 2015, at the Esiama Secondary Technical School in the Ellembele District of the Western Region. It is on the theme: "A Clean Ghana: Attitude makes a Difference". The event, which is organised to mark the birthday of Ghana�s first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, would be hosted at the Half Assini Senior High School in the Jomoro District with 10 senior high and technical schools competing. Participating schools include Half Assini Senior High School (SHS) and Annor Adjaye SHS in the Jomoro District, Fiaseman SHS in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality, Huni/Valley SHS in the Prestea Huni Valley District, and Daboase SHS in the Wassa East District. The rest are the Nsein SHS in the Nzema East Municipality, Ghana Secondary Technical School in the Takoradi Metropolis, Kikam Technical Institute, Essiama Secondary Technical School and Nkroful Agricultural SHS all in the Ellembele District. The promoters of the event, Nzema Events Management (NEM), said the Osagyefo cup was aimed at promoting good sanitation among the students and the citizenry. A statement issued and signed by Mr Koame Adonle Mieza, the Executive Director of Programmes, NEM, and copied to the GNA on Monday, said the game would have participating schools competing in activities such as soccer and quiz and a public lecture. Mr Adonle said the competition could also seek to unearth and promote talents, foster tolerance and mutual understanding between the citizenry within the region as well as highlight on the ideological principles that Dr Nkrumah stood for. The event, which would start from Friday 18th to Monday 21st September, 2015, is partnered by Saigha Foundation, a non- governmental organisation based in Nzema and sponsored by Tullow Ghana Limited, Ghana National Gas Company Limited, Karela Group and the Office of Ellembele Member of Parliament. Collaborators include Ellembele, Prestea Huni Valley, Jomoro, Nzema East Municipal and Wassa East District Assemblies as well as the Members of Parliament for Wassa East and Prestea Huni Valley. Mr Adonle explained that in order to help shape the stars that would be identified, Nzema Events Management had entered into a partnership agreement with Karela Football Club, a first division club in the Western Region to groom and build on the career of lucky talents and called on all to support in making this year's edition a success. Winners of the tournament would take away trophies, cash prizes, set of jerseys, plaques, certificates, and medals among other things. Among the category of talents to be identified are best player of the tournament, goal king, best goalie, best defender, most disciplined team, best coach, and promising player of the tournament.
