Man Dies In Shooting Incident

A 28-year-old man and resident of Duanayili, a suburb of the Tamale, died at Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) last Sunday morning after he was shot in the abdomen by his friend with a pistol he had gone to borrow. The deceased, Nurudeen Shiabu, was shot in his room by his friend, Muazu Fuseini, also 28, who had gone to borrow the pistol on behalf of the deceased from someone called Abdallah, the owner, who is now on the run. According to the police, the suspect did not know there were cartridges in the pistol and in the process of examining it, Muaza's hand accidentally pressed the trigger which went off, hitting the deceased in the abdomen. The empty shells of the cartridges have been retrieved from the scene of the incident by the police, and according to the police the gun was not registered. The incident The incident happened last Saturday around 3 p.m. but the deceased, who was rushed to the TTH, died in the early hours of Sunday, September 6, 2015. The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the TTH mortuary awaiting autopsy while Muazu has been arrested by the police. Police account The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ebenezer Tetteh, who confirmed the story to the Daily Graphic, said Muazu told the police that his deceased friend asked him to find him a gun to do something which he obliged. Mr Tetteh said the suspect, therefore, went for the pistol from Abdallah and brought it to the deceased but the gun went off and hit the deceased in the abdomen. Mr Tetteh said the deceased was rushed to the TTH where he was admitted but died last Sunday morning.
