NDC Supporters Lock Tema West Office

Angry supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tema West constituency of the Greater Accra Region have vowed not to open the partys office at Community 2 for any parliamentary aspirant to file his or her nomination forms. According to them, until Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, vice chairman and director of elections of the NDC rescinds his decision not to contest in the partys forthcoming parliamentary primaries, no party faithful will be allowed to contest at Tema West. The irate NDC supporters further maintained that they would make sure that Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah, New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the constituency, wins the 2016 election, should the party allow James Enu to represent the NDC. They made the declaration after locking the partys office yesterday with padlocks. Cement blocks were used to block the entrance of the office before a notice was pasted in front of the office, stating that No Ampofo No Vote for Tema West. They were of the view that the decision of Mr. Ampofo the defeated candidate of the party in the 2012 election not to contest in the partys parliamentary primaries, is a wrong decision which would affect the party in the area. Mr. Ampofo on Monday issued a release to declare his disinterest in contesting the Tema West primaries, explaining that his current position as a vice chairman and appointment as director of elections, had added enormous responsibility and a more challenging role in the development of the party. According to the supporters, Mr. Ampofo, who was former Local Government and Rural Development Minister, until his appointment as the Board Chairman of the Ghana Port and Rural Development, had been of great help to the party at Tema West and at the national level. Ben Doe, constituency chairman, speaking to DAILY GUIDE, advised the youth to remain calm and channel their grievances to the proper quarters.
