Akufo-Addo On Promise Spree

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2016 elections, Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has pledged Ghanaians that when voted into power, the NPP government would turn the economy around for all to see that the party was not just bragging but meant business. He said with the caliber of knowledgeable men and women in the NPP and indeed Ghana, things would definitely change for the better when the party is given the mandate to steer the affairs of the country within 18 months in government. Mr Akufo-Addo was speaking on Obuoba FM, an Nkawkaw based radio station as part of his tour throughout the country christened Rise and Build. He started the tour in the Volta Region and now in the Eastern Region. He has already visited Akyem Oda and Nkawkaw and will be in Koforidua today. He used the occasion to interact with a number of party functionaries to encourage and advise them to bury their differences and unite for the 2016 elections. He also met some students, traders, Muslim communities and a cross-section of the general public. The flagbearer was accompanied by his running mate, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, Nana Yaw Osafo Maafo, former Minister of state, Otiko Djaba, NPP National Womens Organizer, John Boadu, National Organizer and Kwabena Okerchiri Adusah, former Majority Chief Whip in Parliament. Others are Member of Parliament for Nkawkaw, Eric Kwakye Darfour, MP for Abetifi, Peter Wiafe Pepera, Eastern regional executives of the NPP and many others. Touching on his tour and the theme, the flag bearer said, looking at the way Ghanaians were disappointed and suffering under the current government, he decided to embark on a nationwide tour to restore hope to Ghanaians and renew his appeal to Ghanaians to have confidence in him and the NPP and vote massively for him and the party to enable the economy to be turned around to benefit all and sundry. He expressed his happiness that despite the multi-ethnicity in the Eastern Region, the people are more united with a common purpose to see NPP winning political power in 2016 since majority of Ghanaians are suffering. The NPP is for all Ghanaians no matter the peoples tribe, religion and belief, he assured. He was also happy about the way he and his entourage were received in the Volta Region and hoped the people in that region will this time around, vote massively for the NPP saying, we are expecting about 30% votes in the Volta Region come 2016. He described the NDCs slogan in the Eastern Region, Agenda 50-50 as a joke of the century and said instead of 50-50, the NPP was aiming at over 70 to 80 percent votes in the Eastern Region in 2016. He, therefore, urged all NPP members and sympathizers to bury their differences and work in unity to enable the party capture power come 2016. The NPP and indeed prosperity of Ghana is far bigger than any individual or groups interest. Nana Addo disclosed that the seeming differences among some party big shots will soon be a thing of the past since the party has some respected elders working on the issue. I can assure you the NPP will go to 2016 election as one big family, he declared. On his part, Dr. Bawumia described Mr Akufo-Addo as a man of vision and integrity who could transform Ghanas ailing economy for the betterment of all the citizenry. Touching on the call for the Electoral Commission (EC) to prepare a new register for the 2016 election, Dr. Bawumia was amazed by the NDC reaction and disagreement to the request. As soon as I brought out the possibility of foreigners registered in Ghana, the NDC started speaking in tongues as if they were the EC, he teased. He revealed that countries like Kenya, Nigeria, Togo and a host of others compiled new voter registers before their recent election which were very peaceful. In the case of Togo he said, President Mahama who was then the President of Economic Community of West African States, impressed on Togolese authorities to prepare a new voter register for that countrys election since the opposition parties were calling for it. Why is it that the same President and his party are opposing a genuine and legitimate demand from the other side of political divide, he asked. He stated that the NPP was not fighting for its selfish interest but for the interest of the entire Ghanaians for genuine, transparent and fair election which would be accepted by all. Mr Akufo-Addo and his entourage took time to listen to the concerns of party members and the general public to enable them address most of them.
