National Chief Imam Dons Black Stars Player Jonathan Mensahs Jersey

Hardly would you see the National Chief Imam of Ghana donned a football jersey presented to him by any Ghanaian footballer.

Sheikh Dr. Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu made Black Stars defender, Jonathan Mensah, commonly known as “Jonathan” proud when he immediately dressed into a jersey the player presented to him during a visit.

Jonathan who has been named as Ghana’s most handsome player recently gave his Evian Thonon Gaillard F.C. jersey to the Grand Mufti of Ghana after which he was prayed for.

To him – seeing the highest Muslim religious authority in Ghana wearing his “shirt” is a blessing to him as a young footballer.

“I visited the Imam whom I regard as my God father…after praying me, I gave him the jersey as a gift. surprisingly, he wore it,” he told Peacefmonline.com.

In 2009, Jonathan was in the Ghana team for the under 20 youth championship in Kigali and helped Ghana claim the prestigious cup.

Jonathan's performances during this competition earned him a call-up to the 2010 World Cup, held in South Africa where he was given the number 8 shirt usually worn by Michael Essien – till now, Jonathan has been a key member of Ghana’s Black Stars.
