Dont Wait Till 2016 To Fix Dumsor Prof. Martey To Govt

Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Professor Emmanuel Martey has urged government not to wait till the 2016 election year to solve the power crisis known in local parlance as ‘dumsor’ if it has an immediate solution.

According to him, the socio-economic development in the country is being hampered by the dumsor and it would not be prudent for a government seeking re-election to wait for an election year to end it.

Prof Martey made the comment while presenting a communiqué at the 15th General Assembly of the Presby Church.

He indicated that Ghanaians have endured darkness for far too long and it is time both government and the opposition party stop playing political games with Ghanaians.

“Dumsor has persisted for over the past three years with no immediate end in sight, notwithstanding government’s assurances” he said.

The Presby Moderator added that, Ghanaians are losing their businesses and their lives because of the apaling power supply situation so government should act now if there is a solution.

“Dumsor has created a serious negative impact on economic growth and poor productivity cannot be denied. People are losing their jobs; some are needlessly dying, while others are incurring extra cost to power their generator with its attendant loss of profit” he lamented.

“We can no longer afford to live in perpetual darkness; three years of searching for solution is enough and we urge government to take concrete and realistic steps to restore power” he stressed.
