Kwabena Agyepong Has Not Been Sidelined - Sir John

Former General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie says there are no cracks in his party as has been trumpeted by the media in recent months.

According to him, the happenings in the NPP should be described as ‘misunderstanding’ among some party executives but has nothing to do with the core ambition of the party to rescue Ghanaians from the bad governance of the ruling NDC government in 2016 elections.

Speaking on TV3 Evening Political program dubbed ‘Echo’ on Tuesday September 8, 2015, Sir John as he is affectionately called, insisted what is happening in the NPP is similar to the appointments made in churches as people always have professed their preferred candidates.

Touching on his party’s Chief Scribe, Kwabena Agyepong’s outcry that he was not informed of Nana Akufo-Addo’s campaign tour christened “rise and build” in the country, Sir John debunked that assertion saying the Flagbearer’s agenda to tour the country was discussed some months ago that in September, he [Akufo-Addo] will embark on a tour.

He underscored that his successor, Kwabena Agyepong might have forgotten the date on which Nana Akufo-Addo announced to carry out his campaign tour.

Sir John also urged the NPP Chief Scribe, Kwabena Agyepong, not to be embittered about not playing any key role in Nana Akufo-Addo’s tour because he is acting within the confines of the party’s constitution by dealing with regional executives and the MPs elect to join him in touring the regions.

He maintained that “there is a problem even in appointing a church leader and certainly it is not something which is insurmountable…this is a small misunderstanding which has been blown out of proportion; there is no serious problem in NPP”.

“Kwabena Agyepong has not been sidelined; he was aware of Nana Addo’s tour but it may have escaped him,” he averred.
