NDC Eextends Closing Date For Filing Of Nominations For A/Region

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the incumbent National Democratic Congress, (NDC), has extended the closing date for the filling of nomination for parliamentary aspirants in the Ashanti Region.

This, the party says is to give ample time and equal chance to members of the NDC in the region to complete the process.

Meanwhile nominations in all other regions close on Thursday September 10.

The General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia announced the decision to extend the date to September 17 for the Ashanti Region at the party’s head office, where he launched the party’s biometric ID cards.

He said the process of picking the nomination forms opened in the Ashanti Region a week after it had started in other regions, hence the need for the extension.

According to the General Secretary, 200,000 members of the NDC in the Ashanti Region alone have registered for their ID cards although they expected about 300,000 members.

However the 200,000 figure makes the Ashanti Region the 3rd region after the Northern Region which registered 250,000 members.

The party’s stronghold region, the Volta Region, has topped the chart by registering close to one million members.

Despite the registration of just 200,000 members in the Ashanti Region, regional executives of the party are certain that their one million votes target is realistic.

According to the party, the new cards are to help identify genuine members and would be used in the impending parliamentary and presidential primaries slated for November 7.
