Statement: NPP To Suspend Paul Afoko

The National Council of the opposition New Patriotic Party has given clearance for processes to begin to suspend the party’s chairman.

The Council has in a 7-page letter to the NPP’s Disciplinary Committee, ordered that steps be taken to suspend Mr. Paul Afoko from the position of Chairman of the largest opposition party.

According to them it was imperative for the party to take this action in order to bring peace and oneness of purpose for their party towards the 2016 general elections.

The National Council of Elders claim they have taken a number of steps to resolve tensions within the party particularly from the Regional Chairman level to the National Chairman following the murder of the Upper East Regional Chairman, Mr. Adams Mahama.

On Thursday, 30th July, 2015, the National Council of Elders revealed they met the National Chairman, Mr. Paul Afoko and the General Secretary, Mr. Kwabena Agyei to discuss “The State of the New Patriotic Party”.

At the meeting, the National Council of Elders stressed the need for their officers to keep the party’s issues out of the media in accordance to their constitution.
