Andre Ayew Makes EPL Player Of The Month Shortlist

The Ghana internationals spectacular performance in the English topflight has not gone unnoticed with his latest recognition. Swansea winger Andre Ayew has been nominated for the English Premier League Player of the Month of August award. The 25-year-old joined The Swans in June from French side Marseille, and has seen an awesome start to life in England, having netted three times and assisted once in four matches. Along with teammate Bafetimbi Gomis, Leicester Citys Riyad Mahrez, Manchester City duo David Silva and Aleksandar Kolarov as well as Manchester Uniteds Chris Smalling, Ayew faces a tall order in picking up what would be a major boost to his Premier League adventure. The Ghana international scored on his competitive debut as his side managed a 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, before scoring in games against Newcastle United and Manchester United. He also assisted Gomis goal that earned Swansea all three points courtesy of a 2-1 win over the Red Devils at the Liberty Stadium. However, Algeria international Mahrez and Gomis are the leading candidates for the prize, having each notched four goals in four games this season. The winner of the award is expected to be named on Friday morning. Should the Ghanaian or Gomis pick up the accolade, it would be the first time for a player of the club since Gylfi Sigurdsson in March 2012. In the coaches category, manager Garry Monk has also been listed, alongside Manchester Citys Manuel Pellegrini, Alan Pardew of Crystal Palace and Claudio Ranieri of Leicester City. Ayew has also been shortlisted for Swanseas Player of the Month of August, alongside Gomis and Ecuador international Jefferson Montero.
