Make Upper East Region More Gender Sensitive - MP

Hajia Laadi Ayishetu Ayamba, the Member of Parliament for Pusiga Constituency in the Upper East Region, has urged people to elect more women in the region into Parliament to make the region gender sensitive. When majority of them were given the chance to go to Parliament, they would lobby with developmental partners to bring development to the region. She said the number of women holding high political appointments in the region was very low, and that was making it difficult for women to actively participate in the developmental process of the region. Hajia Ayamba made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Pusiga, when she picked her nomination form for the parliamentary primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Being the only woman from the region in Parliament, she stressed the need for more women to join her to help win developmental projects to the region. Hajia Ayamba said women with their convincing nature could easily bring in good entrepreneurs that would create an enabling environment for jobs to solve the unemployment problem. She said she had provided her constituency with portable water, 30 boreholes, and extended water to the Pusiga Township and its environs. She said about 12 basic schools had been built while employment had been secured for the youth in all the sectors of the economy. Hajia Ayamba said while in office, she had been able to build a few CHPS compounds in the Dobia, Morgo, Zuugu, and the Nakam communities and procured an ambulance for the district health centre to bring quality health services to the doorsteps of the people. To promote quality education in the area, Hajia Ayamba said five motorbikes, desktop computers with accessories and laptop computers had been to the district education directorate for distribution to all the junior high schools. She said about 225 women in the area had been supported with loans to engage in weaving and hairdressing as well as the provision of water pumping machines for 21 communities along the white Volta to embark on dry season farming. Hajia Ayamba said about 80 per cent of her common fund was used to support some students in tertiary institutions and urged the people to keep her in office.
