ANAS VIDEO: Judicial Council Names 'Bribed' Judges...Gives 10 Deadline

Chief Justice Mrs. Georgina Wood, has given the ten High court judges involved in the latest judicial corruption scandal up to Monday September 14 to respond to her petition on their role in the scandal.

A latest Bribery and Corruption scandal in the Judiciary; a product of ace journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas has implicated 34  judges who were caught on camera taking bribes and extorting money from litigants.

Even though 12 High Court judges were named, two of them; Justice Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed Mustapha and Justice Yaw Ansu-Gyeabuor have retired according to a statement from the Judicial council.

The statement signed by the Judicial Secretary Justice Alex B. Poku-Acheampong, said “the attention of the president has been drawn to this fact. In view of their status as retired Justices, the two are not subject to the impeachment proceedings provided under Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution.“

Per the statement, the Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood “in accordance with Article 146 (3) would determine whether there is a prima facie case against" the ten High Court judges mentioned below.

The statement further added that “among the 22 Circuit Court Judges and Magistrates who were referred to the Chief Justice to be dealt with in accordance with Article 151 of the 1992 Constitution, two (2) have since April 1, 2015 been elevated to the High Court. As such, they cannot be brought under the provisions governing the Lower Court Judges.”

“The Chief Justice has therefore re-submitted the petition against the two Justices (Justice Daniel Obeng and Justice Asmah Akwasi Asiedu) to the President for directives. “
