Starting Now Observes �My First Day In School�

Starting Now, an international not-for-profit organization made of young business executives and students have observed �My First Day In school with over 200 pupils of the South Tongu District in the Volta Region of Ghana. As part of activities to mark the day, the group donated books, pencils, erasers, sharpeners and other teaching learning materials to aid teaching and learning in the District. The beneficiary schools included Dabala Junction Comboni Primary School, Dabala Junction D/A Primary School, Alesikpe D/A Primary School as well as Hlevi D/A Primary School and Agorhome D/A Primary School. The concept of �My First Day In School� was instituted to whip up interestamong new and continuing students to go to school. Commenting, Country Coordinator of Starting Now Ghana, Strive Kakraba said: �We all have a role to play in shaping the future of these young ones. At Starting Now, we are not only about giving but also about preparing the minds of young people for the future of this country. We believe that marking this day with pupils of this district will empower them to cultivate a certain level of confidence whiles preparing them to become whoever they want to be� He urged the pupils to take their studies seriously and view higher education as attractive and necessary for their development. On her part, the District Director of Education, Angelica Atackey said she was happy with the attendance on the first day by the pupils and the teachers. She urged teachers to devise innovative ways of teaching that interests and catchesthe attention of pupils. The District Director of Education, called on other organizations and corporate institutions to emulate the shining example of Starting Now Ghana.
