Widows Son, 5, Appeals For Help

The inability of a forty-seven-year-old poor widow, Ama Badu to pay for a surgery to be performed on her five-year-old son, Kofi Balenga, is gradually causing a devastating effect on the health of the son whose eye is rotting away due to a strange disease believed to be eye tumor.

The 47-year-old widow who lives at Dadako, a farming community in the Central Region of Ghana is appealing to the general public and philanthropists to come to the aid of the son by helping to raise GH¢10,000.00 to perform the surgery.

Devine Mother and Child Foundation (DMAC), a Koforidua based Non-Governmental-Organization which first uncovered the plight of the boy during its community work at the village is leading the fund raising campaign.

President of the DMAC foundation, Edmund Duodu, a nurse, is urging the public to donate through Devine Mother and Child Foundation Account number 0153296971015, HFC -Koforidua Branch or through MTN mobile Money 0245462803 to save the child.

According to him, the poor boy may lose his life if the surgery is not performed in the shortest possible time.

Speaking to the DAILY HERITAGE, Ama Badu, a farmer and single mother of seven children, explained that when the disease started, they suspected it to be a boil; however, it has continued to spread to the retina and the entire eye.

She said, “the son always cries due to the pains he goes through daily; he has dropped out of school, someone took her a picture to show to a Doctor at Korle Bu and they say, it is eye tumor, but I don’t have anything on me, I am a poor widow with seven children so please I need the help of the public.”
