Lawyer Of 14 Implicated Judges: None Of The Accused Judges Has Taken Bribe

Lead lawyer of the 14 judges who are implicated in the unraveling bribery scandal in the judiciary, Counsel Charles Bentum has categorically stated that all his clients in the alleged corruption scandal are innocent.

Without giving reasons to back his claim, Lawyer Charles Bentum is convinced that none of his accused clients has taken bribe and that at the end of the judicial council’s enquiry his clients will be exonerated from the bribery charge.

None has confessed to me that they have received bribes from Anas; in fact, let me tell you categorically that my clients, none of them has taken any bribe. Not a single one of them has taken bribe; nobody has taken bribe and at the end of the day you will see that none has taken bribe as it has been portrayed in the minds of people”, he said repeatedly.

Speaking on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Lawyer Bentum reminded that the judges are hard working and distinguished people and learned as well, who have sacrificed their lives as judges and magistrates for the country.

He however pleaded with Ghanaians to be circumspect when commenting on the judicial scandal in order not to project the judges as thieves and criminals; stressing “we should not throw the baby with the bathwater and disgrace them.”

Our country is blessed with human resources and intellectuality and so similarly these judges and magistrates are very distinguished and people must get to know that their sacrifices should not be taken in this manner with these insults and things like that. They are very noble people…my clients are highly disturbed by this judicial scandal because they have friends, families and they attend churches”, he bemoaned.

Counsel Charles Bentum subsequently appeal to the ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas to wait till the trial of the implicated judges are over and done with before airing the videos.

I don’t think anything will be taken away from Anas if he waits for the outcome of the Judicial Council’s trial. The damage on their persona will be irreplaceable after showing the videos now and it comes out the judges did nothing wrong in the video”, he pleaded.
