Tema Central MP; NPP Secretary Arrested...

The Member of Parliament for Tema Central, Kofi Brako and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Secretary, Ian Okwei have been arrested by the police.

The two men who were part of the Let My Vote Count demonstration in Accra were apprehended by DSP S. Adjei for allegedly using unapproved routes in their march to demand a new voters register.

The Tema Central MP and the NPP Secretary according to reports were whisked away in an ash police vehicle with registration number GT 591Z around the Heritage Towers in Accra

They are being sent to the Police Regional Headquarters in Accra for further action.

The peaceful demonstration to present a petition to the Electoral Commission on the need to scrap the existing voters register and compile a new one for 2016 elections turned chaotic when the protestors tried to deviate from the planned route.

The police fired teargas and beat protesters with horse whips in attempts to cow them into submission.

Meanwhile about 15 protesters have also been arrested.
