UBA Launches 2015 National Essay Competiton

UBA Foundation, the Cooperate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, announces the commencement of the 2015 edition of the National Essay Competition for senior secondary school students in Ghana.

This years essay topic is: What matters most to you in life and why?

Prospective applicants must send in handwritten essay of not more than 750 words before the 30th of October, 2015.

Launching the competition, Deputy Minister of Education in-charge of Tertiary Education, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said it was in the right direction and the Ministry will continue to support such initiatives.

He also urged other cooperate institutions to emulate UBA and support the Education sector. 

He congratulated UBA and encouraged them not to backslide in their duty to supporting Ghanaian secondary school students

According to the Managing Director of UBA, Mrs. Abiola Bawuah, though the competition started just last year, it has come to stay and in the near future the Foundation will increase the number of awardees and prizes.

The competition, which is a follow up on the Foundation's Read Africa Initiative, provides a competitive platform to develop the intellectual and writing abilities of senior secondary school students in Ghana.

Winners get educational grants to study in any African University of their choice.

The ultimate winner gets a Ghs 20,000.00, while the 1st runner -up takes home Ghs 14,000.00 for tuition fees, and the 2nd runner-up grabs Ghs 8,000.00.

All 12 finalists also each receive a laptop to aid their education.
