Ninety-nine national service personnel have passed out from the National Police Training School in Urban Traffic Management.

The 99, made up of 27 females and 72 males, will be deployed to various zones within the Accra Region to help with traffic congestion.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Anderson Fosu-Ackaah, Central MTTU Commander, indicated that studies have shown that traffic congestion is a fast emerging urban transportation problem.

According to him, this causes diverse problems to the motoring public, hence the introduction of the course to address the problem.
“The objective of this passing out ceremony is to outdoor the third batch of National Service Traffic Assistants to be sent out to assist the police to manage traffic and reduce congestion in Accra,” he said.

ACP Fosu-Ackaah was hopeful that sanity would be restored on our roads and highways.

He recounted that just last month, 210 personnel passed out at a similar ceremony in Accra to begin the programme, adding that 130 also passed out in Kumasi.

“Information reaching us indicates that they are all doing very well and are committed to the various tasks assigned them,” he said.
He urged the new National Service Traffic Assistants to put up a good performance in the discharge of their duties.

“You are pioneers of this all-important initiative; make us proud,” he charged.

He seized the opportunity to guarantee the Police Administration’s unflinching support for the module.

Some of the personnel The Finder spoke to assured that they would put up their best behaviour on the road.

“We are excited about the training; it would boast our Curriculum Vitae,” one of them said.
